Meeting new people can be stressful for me.  What if I forget their name? They might throw more information at me than I can absorb.  I might fail the test of making that first good impression.  I don’t know this person and the unknown can be uncomfortable.

On a trip to China, I attended a social event of a couple hundred people I had never met before in my life.   But I knew someone they knew.  That always helps.   If we don’t know each other, but we know a common friend, getting acquainted becomes much easier.   Our mutual friend in China was Jesus.   Jesus didn’t try to impress all the new people he met. His purpose was to bless rather than impress.  While the people in China were impressive, they didn’t try to impress me.  They blessed me.  That left a real impression on me…….a very good first impression!   I was American.  They were Chinese.  I was an outsider.  They were insiders. Very quickly, they made me feel like an insider.
